Newbie mistake...lesson learned!

Ever since I got pregnant I've been thinking about what decor we wanted for the nursery. We pretty much had an idea all along of what we wanted....nature themed....woodland creatures....that sort of thing. Since at the time I wasn't in school yet, silly me thought, "oh I'll just make it all myself....curtains, bedding, you name it!" Yeah right....now at 6 months preggo and busy/tired all the time, I'm realizing that that's just not gonna happen. I tend to let my good intentions get the best of me and think I can do it all! Guess I have to accept the fact that I'm not superwoman...shoot! Not to mention I seem to be having a really hard time pulling the whole thing together. So we had to go back to the drawing board and start over...using as much of what we had gotten already and making it work.

So....here are some lessons I learned from all of this:

#1 Wait until you know what you're having before picking the decor (if you're finding out the sex) because no matter how much you think you want a neutral nursery, you might change your mind once you know!

Check.

#2 Unless you have the time and energy to tackle a major project like making a nursery from scratch....don't kid yourself!

Check.

#3 When trying to plan a nursery....pick the bedding first....then the rest of the accents/colors!

Check.

At first I was so frustrated with myself, about the whole thing because nothing was turning out the way I had hoped ( I love the individual pieces, but it's just not working as a whole) but you know what, thanks to my sweet hubby, we're laughing at it now. Thank GOD it's pretty simple fixes...repaint the picture frames and letters....pick the bedding and accessories... not too bad. Everything can be reused. If the artwork doesn't work then it will work just as well in the living room. Crisis averted. (I was losing sleep over this people! Lol...I'm blaming the crazy preggo hormones, but I felt like I was just picking the wrong thing for my child! I can't explain how nutty I felt until I had it all figured out! Please tell me I'm not alone in this ;0) lol!)

Anyway, so here's what we came up with....like I said, the "theme" is still the same, just more masculine and colorful. :)

  1. That's an adorable bed set! I'm sure things seem much more earth-shattering with hormones in the mix :-) Give yourself some grace! Glad you'll be able to make some adjustments to make everything work. I'm sure it will be perfect in the end! Have a great Monday Nadine...

  2. Haha! I am right there with you... I was dreaming about bedding the other night- I just can't get it out of my head! I like your checklist... I think I am doing pretty good with it. I have actually thought about making my own bedding but somehow the logical part of my brain said, ya right! Hope your feeling better!! <3

  3. You are NOT alone :) I've been stressed about bedroom furniture. We were going to use my 2 year olds bed/dresser for the new baby, but then we would have to create almost a whole new room for him (expecpt a bed, we already have that). I wasn't finding anything for a good price and it was going to be just as expensive. This weekend I found a bed, dresser/changer with mattress on CraigsList. We were able to get it and I feel SO much better! My hubby says I'm nesting :)

  4. Haha...I'm sooo glad it's not just me! I just couldn't get it out of my head it was driving me crazy. Not to mention I was cleaning the house like a lunatic because I just couldn't stand it anymore, I "had" to make the new pillow cases etc....I'm just going bananas...isn't it too early to be nesting...at 6 mths?!

  5. Nadine you're too funny! I've got some serious nesting issues too, however I knew not to start making my own bedding since I am just so not good at those kinds of things (no matter how badly I wish I could) . I think it's good that you actually gave it an attempt :-) And your bedding is too cute!

  9. You are too cute!! And while I've been excited to get ready, we've done so little in the nursery to get it ready. Argh.

I'm sorry it's been such a stressor, but now at least you know what you can handle -- and it looks like you've picked out some ADORABLE bedding to boot. :o)

  10. Your post made me smile...and feel REALLY old!!
I happened upon your blog through a comment you left with Tea....I love the title!! I wish you the best in your pregnancy. We have four...my nursery NEVER quite looked like I dreamed it would...now I smile because their bedrooms NEVER look like I wish they would...and if it is as quick as the nursery stage....well, I will let you discover that for yourself:):) God bless.

I am a poet...your blog title inspires me:)

  11. Nadine, I can so relate to this post. I just completely had a change of heart on crib bedding. I don't know why I am so stressed out about the nursery, but my patience level is lessening. I just want it to be done already! UGH!
